Thaw | An Exhibit in Celebration of Spring

10 March 2013

Mark your calendars… Friday, 22 March from 18:00-21:00 is the opening of Thaw | An Exhibit in Celebration of Spring, a group show of over 30 artists from the Interlake’s Wave Studio Tour. The show continues until 21 April.

‘Where am I and who took my clothes?’… sold.

14 February 2013

I just got the good news that Wayne Arthur Gallery (on Provencher Boulevard, Winnipeg) has sold my sculpture entitled ‘Where am I and who took my clothes?’ In its stead, ‘Pinch Me (I’m not a production potter)’ is now on exhibit there…

Next up: For the Love of Craft

20 January 2013

For the Love of Craft is the Manitoba Craft Council’s Annual Member Exhibition and Sale. The show features work by craft-based artists working in ceramics, glass, fibre, metal and mixed media. Please come out on Friday evening, 1 February, to take in the works and mingle over snacks and refreshments… see you there?

My sculpture entitled ‘Not Jane Eyre‘ will be on exhibit at the show.

Thinking about gift-giving?

4 November 2012

On Thursday, 8 November, I’ll have a table of diverse “give-ables” at Artspace, 100 Arthur Street (in Winnipeg) before and after the screening of Tapestries of Film. Doors open at 18:00, film screening at 19:00. My “ware” will include Readers*, quirky shot-glasses and nesting-bowls, as well as wearable clay pendants, etc…

I’d love to see you there!

* Various book-clubbers have placed pre-Christmas orders for these studious little beings… contact me directly for special pricing on a batch of 4-or-more.

Winnipeg Art Gallery… I’m in!

14 September 2012

I’m thrilled! I’m truly thrilled to be able to share the fact that my work is now on display, and for sale, in the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Gallery Shop. The first sculptural work selected is “On The Surface All Seemed Normal…” Completed in 2010, it’s a figurative stoneware sculpture with low-fired glazes and iron oxide stain, augmented with cold-finishes: sterling silver bridle and a formed copper bit (340 x 210 x 420 mm). My artist statement for the piece reads as follows:

Lake Winnipeg has always lived large in my life. It has a hold on me that won’t let go. Being at the Lake signals a time for me to just be me… through the years, the Lake has swallowed a lot of my woes. It is a big lake… it can take it. And just so you know… on the surface all seemed normal.

Thanks for the visit!

1-2 September, 2012

Thanks for coming out to the 11th annual Wave Artists’ Studio Tour! I had such a good time chatting with all who came—it is always such a great end to our awesome summers here in the Interlake. The transition to a full working studio (from the summer gallery set-up) is anticipated with eager excitement… a whole new batch of “studio buddies” is on the way.

Scouting for galleries…

23 July 2012

This summer has included lots of vacation travel with gallery scouting thrown in—I’m keen to find broader representation in larger urban centers. Trips to Vancouver and Montreal were helpful in giving me a better picture of the gallery scene there, and in “filling the creative well.” I’ll be following up on the research by making submissions to select galleries that struck me as a good fit… more news to (hopefully) follow on that front.

Try, then try again…

12 July 2012

Now that I’m over the shock and disappointment of losing most of this piece when it exploded into a thousand tiny shards during firing, I think I have (once again) learned my lesson: “Do Not Rush Clay! Let it dry completely!” Because I’ve also learned the importance of “Try, Try Again!” I can promise that I will (re)make this sculpture!

My book’s now available for purchase… online!

1 July 2012 (pretty much anywhere in the world)

My book entitled ‘[ mostly well behaved ]’ was not really created with the intention of selling books (it was designed more as a marketing piece for my ceramic sculptures); that said, in response to numerous requests, arrangements have now been made to allow peeps to purchase a copy directly through Blurb, here. (But of course you can still access a PDF version for free, here).

2012 Wave Tour

24 May 2012

I’ve been busy getting ready for the 11th Wave Interlake Artist’s Studio Tour! If you have the time and inclination or curiosity to see what we have been up to, please do come on out—it should be a fun-filled couple of days, happening on 9 and 10 June.

Online information and short-form brochures can be accessed here. Full brochures are available for pick-up at all of our sponsors.

My “studio buddies” and I welcome one and all with open arms…
